These vegetarian capsules are made from plant cellulose with 3 times less moisture content than typical gelatin capsules. This is an important factor when considering live bacteria supplements and a great alternative.

Information about the active ingredients in Acidophilus Extra 4

This product contains two carefully selected strains of live bacteria - Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidus.

Live bacteria supplements only work if they are kept alive in a state of "suspended animation" and then remain viable after ingestion. Lamberts^® uses complex processes to ensure that the live bacteria remain viable in their packaging. The special tubes we use contain a desiccant liner to remove all traces of moisture from the capsules. This, and the fact that we keep the product frozen until dispatch, means that the live bacteria are guaranteed to remain viable until the "best before (end)" date.

Once the capsules are swallowed, it is vital to ensure that the live bacteria survive their passage through the stomach. The acidic environment of the stomach kills bacteria, and this is the first line of defense against pathogenic bacteria. We specifically use delayed-release capsules. Due to the unique delayed-release properties of the capsule shell, the opening of the capsule is slowed, and full release does not begin until approximately 45 minutes after ingestion. Their low moisture content further increases stability, so the live bacteria reach the small intestine where conditions are ideal for them to multiply and grow.

There are no problems taking this product with other supplements. However, taking oral antibiotics at the same time may reduce the effectiveness of this product.

Can other products help?

Supplements containing fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), which are a form of soluble fiber, are suitable because live harmless bacteria use it as a food source. Thus, by taking FOS, you can selectively feed live harmless bacteria, allowing them to flourish and grow compared to pathogenic bacteria. Lamberts^® FOS is a pure natural soluble fiber derived from chicory roots.

How to take Acidophilus Extra 4

Acidophilus Extra 4 can be taken for long periods because the bacteria in the formula are safe. Take two capsules daily or as directed by a health professional or pharmacist. Take with a glass of water, preferably in the morning when the stomach pH is highest (less acidic). Do not exceed the stated recommended dose. Do not take capsules with hot drinks, as heat destroys the bacteria. A food supplement should not be used as a substitute for food. A varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important.
